Lunchtime
It’s time for lunch. And the decision of what to have has been made for me.

This is my Healthy Choice, microwaveable, unrecognizable, unthinkable lunch! I know it’s food, and it fits my new caloric intake measures, but it’s still not what I want for lunch.
This is what I really want:

Talk about a no brainer!
Life Is A Highway…
I… like most people have decided to drop a few pounds in this new year. It’s a regimen of diet and exercise. The exercise is easy, the diet is not.
But I finally found some inspiration. And it was right in front of me. Along a stretch of I-20 in Mississippi, I ran into a bit of reality.

Can You Believe the U.S. Postal Service?

The Saints are gearing up for their first post season game. I took this picture as I was returning from Demopolis, Alabama. On the back of a tractor trailer that was hauling mail someone had written “Saints #1″.
My question is, can you believe the U.S. Postal Service?
A Smile On A Sad Day…

For me, today is a very sad day. It was one year ago that my dad passed away after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers and a very short battle with cancer. I can’t believe that a year has passed.
But I met a remarkable woman today, who was able to bring a smile to my face. Her name is Miss Lizzie Johnson. That’s her in the picture. Today is her 103rd birthday!
The only thing Miss Lizzie says she can no longer do is dance. She says her legs just don’t work the same way anymore. But that’s the only thing slowing her down.
But what made me smile was her outlook on life. She says she never complains, because it doesn’t do any good.
Those are words to live by.
The Loss of a Classmate

There are some things in life that tend to mark a milestone. Do you remember getting your drivers’ license? How about graduating from high school? college? Your first real job? Getting married? The birth of your first child?
But sometimes there are things that happen throughout the course of life that we would rather forget. In November, my high school class held it’s 25th reunion. It was a fun time catching up with everyone. It was shortly after that I remarked our class had not lost anyone in the last quarter century.
Little did I know that would change just two months later. A former classmate posted on Facebook that one of our classmates had died. It was a sudden death, not by accident, but possibly a blood clot. She leaves behind just a daughter. I knew her, but hadn’t seen her or spoken to her in years. She was supposed to attend the reunion, but never made it.
It just goes to show how precious life is, and that we should never take any one or any day for granted.
How Do You Define Hero?

I remember watching this show when I was a kid. It was a story of an ordinary guy who becomes a superhero.
But does a cape and tights make a hero. Not in my book! This cold snap has shown us there are a lot of heros out there. Those of you who braved the cold on Thursday to donate items to the Salvation Army, so those less fortunate are warm. The men, women and children who made sure the homeless had sleeping bags. Everyone who donated to make sure every child had something underneath their Christmas tree.
Especially in my long list of heros, the men and women who serve in the Louisiana National Guard. Many of them are preparing to say goodbye to their families as they head to Iraq. Please be safe, and we’ll count down the days until your joyouos homecoming. And thank you!
No Show Snow!

Watching all the prepartions being made for this latest “no show snow”, reminded me of home. It’s been years since I’ve watched people scurry to the grocery store to stock up before a storm.
But once again, Mother Nature’s idea of a treat for the South, turned into a trick.
That’s ok, at least refrigerators around the Ark La Tex are now well stocked for the first weekend of football playoffs.
How Do You Say It?

I can only magine the debates raging in newsrooms across America.
Reporters, anchor, producers, and administrators alike, all asking, how do you say it.
I’m talking about the year.
It’s 2010. Seems pretty basic.
But how do you say it. Is it two thousand ten or twenty ten?
What’s your thoughts?
My Plans for 2010….

Here it is, my first day back to work in 2010 and I’m already trying to come up with ways to improve my life this year.
There are the basics, eat less, exercise more, save money, etc. But this year, I’m planning on going even further. The first is to distance myself from people who I consider negative. There is nothing more draining and time consuming then trying to deal with this type of personality. They are the types who find that nothing is good enough, nobody is good enough, it’s their way or the highway. Well, in 2010, they’ll be hitting the highway.
Then there are those who are just needy. They need constant attention, but in the end just cause problems. I often find myself is some sticky situations because of people like this. A word of warning, it will happen no more. It’s time to rely on yourself.
For those who don’t fall into the previous two categories, I will try to be more patient and understanding.
I hope that when I ring in 2011, I’ll be a better person.
