Here’s the Answer Karen…

July 29th, 2009

I recently had this posted on my blog.

The writers name is Karen.

Hi Ed. I enjoy watching you and Sonja every morning before I head off to work. I think Jennifer Gray is doing a great job with the weather. I have to ask you, do you realize people can see your boots when you guys are sitting in those director chairs? My co-workers and I laugh about your “worn” looking boots. We were thinking that surely they pay you enough there at the station to get some decent looking shoes, hey? You guys are great!

Karen, thank you for the question. The answer is simple. First of all, those are the most comfortable shoes that I own besides my cross trainers. But I don’t think they look any more professional. Secondly, after the morning show, I head out into the field. The deal is, sometimes that field is a mess, and I need to wear boots.

Hopefully this picture will give everyone a better understanding of some of the conditions that we have to work in.

I guess it’s off to buy some new footwear this weekend. Keep and eye out Karen! Thanks for the question.

Jury Duty 101..

July 27th, 2009

jury

After years of waiting it has finally happened. I’ve been called to jury duty.

Over the weekend, the mailman left a note in my mailbox that I had a certified letter waiting for me at the post office. Well, if curiousity killed the cat, I would have used up all nine lives and then some. I kept wondering what was waiting for me. Did some unknown relative die, leaving me a gazillion dollars? Was I being audited by the I.R.S.?

All of those concerns came to an end this morning when I got the letter. After signing my name several times and putting my address into the little computer keypad that the post office now uses, I got my letter.

It was my notice to serve jury duty. I have waited years for this. The only other time I was selected was shortly after I moved to Shreveport. It was from Ouachita Parish where I had lived. Since I was no longer a resident there, I couldn’t serve.

Now, I’m wondering what, if any trial I’ll sit on. I hope it’s something juicy.

Did I Miss Something?

I went to the movies to see “Harry Potter and the Half Bood Prince.” I would recommend the movie. It was great.

Before the movie begins, I was bombarded with trailers for upcoming films.

Not unusual. But after a while, I noticed a new trend.

Gone are the days are highlighting your stars. For example, starring Oscar winner so and so or Oscar nominated. Now a days, it’s all about the director. Directed by so an so who directed this and that.

Am I missing something here? I don’t think I’m more likely to go see a movie because of the director!

Condiment Crooks….

July 20th, 2009

largesugarpackets

This is not a sweet story.

It’s not meant to be, since we’re all guilty. On Saturday, I visited an area store that has a coffee bar inside. There’s nothing better than roaming the aisles with a cup of coffee as a pick me up. While waiting for my order to be filled, I turned around to the bar where you’ll find the cream and sugar. The gentleman in front of me grabbed a handful of Splenda and slid them into his left pocket. He then took another handful and put them in his right pocket. This man was getting his weekly supply of Splenda right there.

Then it hit me. We all do it. How many times have I stocked up on the creamer packets from McDonalds? I’ve taken my fair share of plastic spoons from Wendy’s. And yes, I have taken more Splenda packets than I should have when I picked up Sonja’s coffee.

So is this really stealing? They are there for the taking.

A Real Benchmark!

July 14th, 2009

weights

At my gym, there’s a rack of dumbbells like this. From day one, I had a goal of moving from the rack to the dumbbells that sit on the floor, because a) there’s not enough room and b) they’re too heavy.

It finally happened! After years of gearing up, I graduated to the big boys’ weights. My workout now includes 55lb dumbbells. That’s still light compared to what others are lifting at the gym. But just give me time!

facebook

OMG! The truth hurts. But I’m an addict! I’ve become addicted to Facebook. I find that when I’m bored, I can spend countless hours on Facebook trying to track down old friends, updating my status, or just playing the games.

I really need to get a life!

I Phone?

iphone

I admit, I am always behind the times when it comes technology.

It took me forever to get a home computer, and then to upgrade to a laptop. I waited forever to buy an IPod.

And now I’m mulling over an IPhone. I just saw a commercial for the new IPhones that have video editing.

Is it worth the money? What are the downsides? What are the upsides? Help me please!

Can I Get A Nomination?

July 1st, 2009

I need a favor.

Live with Regis and Kelly is holding a contest. They’ll choose 20 local broadcasters and give them the chance to appear as a guest host on “Live”.

One of my co-workers, heard about the contest and entered my name. The problem is, it will probably take more than one nomination.

Here is the link to nominate me. You can do it once a day. And you have the chance of winning a $500 American Express Gift Card. Not a bad deal.

Here’s the link: www.liveregisandkelly.com

You have to register, but I promise this is not a scam.
