If there is any truth to the superstition that a wish on a shooting star comes true, your question is exactly why I think it would work.

Someone who has some sort of goal in the forefront of their mind, someone thinking over it constantly, would be able to come up with a fully formed wish that quickly. That person would probably be making many other decisions, consciously or subconsciously, during their daily life based on what would help them achieve that same goal. If they obtain the goal, it isn’t the shooting star that granted it. Its the fact that the goal was so palpable for them that allowed them to make the wish.

Maybe look at it this way Ed. Around when I met you {mumble} years ago, if you saw a shooting star I can imagine you saying “I wish I was a TV newscaster”.

When I was a teen, my best friend, his brother and I knew of a high point in East Texas we could drive up to late at night and all lay in the bed of the pick up and watch the stars while we talked about life in general. One night we were looking up and suddenly a dazzling shooting star streaked across our viewing range..it was gigantic and it lasted maybe 2 seconds.. but it was the most fantastic sight we had ever seen then or since.If we hadn’t been looking at the sky, we would most likely have missed it…could have been the end of everything if it had crashed into the planet…I will always cherish those times we went up there (the place is private property now and inaccessible as I tried to go up there years later. But I long to find a place like that again)…
